About The Farm School

The Farm School, founded in 1989, is located on over 200 acres in Athol, Massachusetts.

Our Learn to Farm program for adults is a year-long, rigorous immersion in the seasonal lifestyle of a traditional New England diversified farm, focused on organic production and sustainability.  New sessions begin in September of every year, and we accept applications for 16 students on a rolling basis.  Click on the link above for more information and be in touch to learn more.

Also on the farm is our Program for Visiting Schools , which brings more than 2,000 kids a year for multi-day farm experiences where they are integrated fully into the operations of the farm.  Our Chicken Coop School is a farm-based middle school for local seventh and eighth graders, and our Summer Camp for fifth through twelfth graders runs through June and July.

We run two large CSAs, one for organic veggies and one for pastured-raised meats, and participate in the Watertown and Athol Farmers Market every week of the summer months.

The Farm School helps people connect to land by teaching children and adults to grow healthy food, become stewards of the earth, and foster the connections that build community. Careful mentoring, meaningful work, humor, and kindness are at the center of all that we do.  Check out our website at farmschool.org  for more information, and come by for a visit!

  1. JDP! I cannot thank you enough for investing your time in The Farm School Manual so people near and far can read about or relive the magic of that place throughout the changing seasons! I have missed The Farm School so much that I literally had a dream last night that my entire class re-enrolled for this upcoming year: we were all so stoked to do it all over again! Jim Gerrish came to Lander, Wyoming for a weekend intensive class on MIG; I was able to attend, and it was a bit of a weird dream-come-true to meet him and feel like I was back on Animal Track, minus the ice cream and my fellow hooligans. Anyways, thanks again for giving me something to look forward to every week — I hope to make it back up there sometime this year for a visit! Keep it real! 🙂 -Damiana
